Inchoate: IV - The revenant
21/05/09 || theProphet
What the fuck do we have here? According Inchoate’s myspace, “IV: The Revenant” can best be described as “an instrumental metal soundtrack to a fictional zombie movie.” Now, add to this the fact that this is apparently the work of some lonely guy called Brandon and “IV: The Zombie Movie Instrumental Metal Soundtrack”‘s prospects of getting a glowing review by one of the globallest dominators on the internets look pretty fucking shaky.
I mean, how retarded doesn’t this seem? Obviously, this is the work of one of those god damn “visionaries” who seem to think that having other guys in your pathetic little concept band will somehow impair the fulfillment of your artistic vision. Usually though, we find these dipshits in the black metal category, but apparently, now we’ve stumbled into “instrumental metal soundtrack to a fictional zombie movie”-country. And for the fucking record, since when are zombie movies not fictional?
Okay, so I realize that I’m getting a bit carried away here, so I’ll move on to the music. You see, retarded concept aside, Mr. Brandon actually manages to produce some above decent material, so I guess that my initial ranting was not entirely justified. I would describe the music as progressive with thrash influences, which is pretty sucky soundtrack music as far as I’m concerned. I won’t deny that Brandon is quite the talented guitarist though, and some of the riffs he has written for this shit is quite stellar with a lot of groove and heaviness, as well as being quite interesting. I guess the production is okay, seeing as the record is released on mastermind Brandon’s own label, Corporate Demon.
The way I see it, “IV: The Revenant” has two major flaws. Number one is the drum programmings, which are pretty incompetent and certainly not on par with the guitars and bass. Secondly, it’s “AN INSTRUMENTAL METAL SOUNDTRACK TO A FICTIONAL ZOMBIE MOVIE” for fuck’s sake. I mean come on, what the hell were you thinking? It’s not like someone will listen to this and mentally direct their own as of now non-existent zombie movie so that “IV: The Revenant” can be its fucking soundtrack!!!
Brandon needs to get himself a drummer and a vocalist and start writing songs of regular length, that can stand on their own instead of being meant to be coupled with imaginary cinema. Then perhaps we could see some decent work from this guy.
4 non-fictional zombie apocalypses out of 10.
